Interac Flash

What is Interac Flash®?

Interac Flash® is technology embedded in new ACU debit cards that lets you pay for smaller purchases faster and easier. In fact, pay quick as a flash

How do I use it?

Look for the contactless logo on the device screen or simply ask the business if they accept Interac Flash®. Then follow these steps:

  • tap or hold your card against the terminal's screen
  • a beep and/or an approved message on the screen will tell you that your transaction has been completed
  • the cost of your purchase will automatically be deducted from your primary bank account

How secure is Interac Flash®?

Extremely secure. Interac Flash® uses secure CHIP processing and secure RF smartcard technology. Each transaction is unique and encrypted and can't be replicated. No personal information is ever sent, only an encrypted payment code.

To protect you even further, POS terminals will, from time to time, block the tap feature and ask you to insert your card and enter your PIN. This ensures that the card is in the hands of its rightful owner.

So what are the benefits of using my debit card with Interac Flash®?

  • make small purchases much faster and spend less time on your transaction
  • no more entering your PIN and risk others seeing it
  • your ACU debit card never leaves your hand

Any restrictions on using Interac Flash®?

Just maximum transaction limits:

  • Basic purchases - $50
  • Gas and Groceries - $100
  • Cumulative limit - $200*

* The cumulative limit refers to the consecutive uses of the contactless feature. After you've reached the cumulative purchase limit of $200, you'll be prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN. Your cumulative limit will then be reset to $200. This is an added security measure of Interac Flash®.

Which account will get debited when I use Interac Flash®?

Flash transactions will automatically be debited from the primary chequing account that's linked to your ACU debit card. If you don't have a chequing account, then the account designated as primary savings will be debited.

Can I still use my debit card with my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

Oh, definitely. It still works like it always has and you can still purchase goods and services by inserting your card and using your PIN.
